Treatment Options for Psoriasis

Psoriasis is more than just a skin rash. It’s actually an autoimmune condition. Your body produces too many skin cells too rapidly, causing scaly, itchy, red patches on your skin. Psoriasis is uncomfortable, and it can also make you self-conscious about the way you look. Our dermatologist can help.

Dr. John Randall, our board-certified dermatologist and the provider team at Randall Dermatology & Medspa offers a wide range of medical and cosmetic skincare services, including psoriasis treatment. He has several convenient office locations in West Lafayette, Kokomo, Frankfort, Rensselaer, Terre Haute, Westfield, Monticello, Winamac, Williamsport, and Zionsville, IN, to help you get relief from psoriasis.

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is categorized according to how much of your body is involved. Treatment may vary depending on the severity of your psoriasis.

For mild psoriasis, which affects less than 3% of your body, our dermatologist may recommend:

  • Over-the-counter or prescription bath treatments, shampoos, and moisturizing creams
  • Prescription-strength topical steroid creams to control itching and slow skin cell growth
  • Laser therapy to help get rid of psoriasis patches

For moderate psoriasis, which affects 3% to 10% of your body, or severe psoriasis, which affects over 10% of your body, our dermatologist may recommend:

  • Prescription-strength oral medications including cyclosporine and methotrexate, to reduce inflammation and lower skin cell production
  • Biologic drugs, which work by regulating an overactive immune system
  • Light therapy to get rid of psoriasis patches, including natural light, phototherapy, or lasers
