Skin Cancer Excisional Removal

EXCISIONAL REMOVAL OF SKIN CANCER

Excisional surgery can be performed to remove some skin cancers. Using a local anesthetic, the skin cancer is removed in addition to a “margin of safety” around the growth. The area is then closed using sutures. Following the procedure, the specimen is examined under a microscope by a dermatopathologist to ensure that the growth has been removed completely.
